Abstract

A technique from Nonlineal Dynamics that allows to characterize the degree of synchronization in a system of globally coupled chaotic oscillators, subjected to an external noise, is presented. This technique is used to analyze electroencephalografics (EEG) signals from healthy subjects and from epileptic patients, allowing the obtention of parameters that quantify the levels of syncrhonization of the brain activity in both groups of individuals. These parameters allow the detection of a maximun in the syncrhonization previous to the begining of an epileptic crisis. This technic may contribute to a better understanding and diagnostic of brain pathologies and help to predict epileptic events.
